Quite a weird, rather mis-leading trending topics chart on twitter just now. Instead of thousands of stranded people complaining, supposed to take planes from Europe to wherever, we see the usual Friday suspects, nowplaying, whenyoursingle or the sticky Justin Bieber. (I have the world trends set).
This is quite revealing about the value of twitter’s trending topics right now, although I obviously don’t know how what algorithm runs behind it. One thing is for sure: if the algorythm only takes a certain timeframe, it isn’t representative at all. E.g. if only the last hour or so is taken as a reference one explanation for this chart may be that it is night in Europe right now, daytime in America. In-sleep complaining still is a tough one.
